El Torreon is one of the most distinctive properties in Taos. This 4,320 square foot building was originally completed in 1847. El Torreon Hacienda has an inner courtyard and saguan, similar to other haciendas of the time. The Torreon (fortified tower) that remains here was built in around 1820 and was used to keep watch for invaders.

Restoration of this lovely old hacienda was begun in May 2001. The Grand Opening of El Torreon Hacienda was on May 10, 2002.
